Paper cutting #1

In the name of Allah, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful

Mr. Wikipedia said that paper cutting is the art of cutting paper design. The art has evolved uniquely all over the world to adopt to different cultural style. It is said that, the paper cutting is started during China. Most of the people with access to paper cause such an art were usually nobles in royal palaces. Click here to read more about paper cutting.

I found out about this paper cutting thingy while blog-walking at Azura's blog. If I'm not mistaken, I've learnt about this paper cutting during primary school. Forgot already. Hence, I give it a try by started finding the video about paper cutting in YouTube. I followed the instructions in her video.

Another information.
Paper cutting can also be known as Kirigami. It is a variation of origami that includes cutting of the paper. In Japanese, kiru = to cut, kami = paper. Kirigami starts with a folded base, which is then cut, cuts are then opened and flattened to make the finished kirigami. Extracted from Wikipedia.

And this is my first kirigami after a long time not doing some paper cutting.

Folded paper

This is not magic. :)

My humble kirigami

Mind the low quality of the pictures. Oh another information I would like to share with you is the meaning of origami. Ori = folding, kami = paper. Yes, kirigami and origami are brothers. For me, kirigami is simpler than origami. What say you?

p/s: Nak isi masa lapang? Cubalah kirigami. :)
